Home Info Meeting Lions Links VUWSA Victoria University of Wellington |
This meeting was held at 5.00pm on Wednesday, 8 March 2006 in Room 1 in the Students' Union. The objective of the Information Meeting was to promote the formation of the new Club, sign up at least 20 interested individuals and organize an "Organizational Meeting" at which, inter alia, officers would be elected, future meeting dates worked out, information about actual club operations discussed and arrangements begun for the "Charter Function". For this to be achieved, the information meeting needed to present information about Lions, how Lions Clubs are run, and the costs of being a member of a Campus Club so that those present could be in a position to decide whether or not to form a Club. With only 11 prospective members attending, the minimum number of 20 required to form a new club was not met, but those who are interested will operate as a Campus branch of the Karori Lions Club until the required minimum is reached. The indications are that it should not take too long to do this. Note that 20 is the minimum number not only for the formation of a new, independent Lions Club but also for a Club to be affiliated with VUWSA. Those present at the Information Meeting decided to meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7.30p.m. Brad Knowsley talked about "Helping Hand", an ACC and Wellington City Council-funded project managed by VUW students since last year, which aims to assess the homes of elderly people for possible accident danger. This requires a number of trained volunteers to do the audits and is thought to be an excellent project for the new club to become involved in. After carrying out the audits, Helping Hand then arranges for any necessary work to be done by appropriate tradespeople on a materials cost only basis. NOTE: The above is retained on this site for the time being as a historical record. Subsequent meetings may change some of the decisions made at this time. For example, a later meeting decided to meet at 6.30p.m. and any decision whether or not to seek affiliation with VUWSA has yet to be considered. Another meeting decided that there should be two meetings per month - on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays - at 6.30pm in the Seminar Room of the University Teaching Development Centre (UTDC), 10 Wai-te-Ata Road (Room 201) |
